The majority of CA Community College transfers want to transfer to one of the twenty-three California State schools. This includes CSUF, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU LA, CSULB, Humboldt State, Chico State, Sonoma State, SFSU, Sac State, CSU Maritime, CSU East Bay, SJSU, Fresno State, CSU Stanislaus, CSU Bakersfield, CSU Channel Islands, CSUN, CSU San Bernardino, CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU San Marcos, and CSU Monterey Bay. This is an awesome goal that can be achieved. These schools are semi-competitive and require a medium GPA. Students in nearby community colleges have a "home field advantage" so make sure you find your local Cal State and apply there! Here are a few things to remember:
Plan it Out Ahead of Time:
To transfer to a CSU (for the majority of majors) you need to complete what is called the California State Univeristy General Education Breadth (CSUGE- Breadth). Upon completing this you will guarantee once you transfer you will no longer need to take any General Education courses saving yourself time and $. *Cal States Require additional Gen Ed's than UC's including: Communications, History, and Political Science*
Go to Assist.com and type in your local CC along with the CSU you are planning to transfer to. Look at the required courses for your planned major. *Each CSU will most likely have different requirements so check ALL of the CSU's you are interested in applying to*
Make a 2-4 year plan (depending on how many hours you work/ to how many units you take) and plan out when you will take each class AND when. Cross check major courses, general education (CSUGE- Breadth) courses, and ADT courses.
To the impacted CSU's it is important that you take your major courses (the ones listed on assist) before you apply.
Impacted CSU'S: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fresno State, CSU Fullerton, Cal State LA, CSU Long Beach, San Diego State University, San José State
Certain Majors will be impacted at NON impacted Cal States as well. ALL Majors are impacted at impacted Cal States.

*** It is extremely important if your major qualifies that you complete an ADT (associates degree to transfer). At certain colleges this can also be called an AA-T or an AS-T. This will greatly increase your chances of being admitted to an impacted campus, and if you are NOT you are guaranteed admission at a non impacted campus. ***
Cal States DO NOT care about extracurriculars but DO care about jobs that relate to your major. If you can try and get a job in a field related to what you are studying.
Apply the November before you plan on attending. For example, if you plan on attending a UC for Fall 2020 you should have applied by November 30, 2019.
